I've never heard it whistle but I only ever put in about 2 cups of water or less. I didn't want a kettle that whistled so I am happy. You can tell by the sound of the water that it's ready, as long as you are in the same room, which I always am.
The water heats up fast and I like the looks of the pot. I like being able to see inside. The only thing that I don't like about it is that the handle is not very ergonomic. I feel like I'm contorting my arm/shoulder to pour, but I would still recommend this teapot.

Good product, holds plenty of water. Whistle works fine. Whistle works on pressure so there has to be enough water to stop steam from coming out of the spout. Do you really need a whistle to know when water is boiling?
