Mr. Coffee TM70 3-Quart Iced-Tea Maker
I was extremely hesitant on purchasing this as a replacement for other Mr. Coffee tea maker. The way a majority of these reviews read, I was afraid I'd have tea all over my kitchen floor. However, after deciding to risk it and knowing I could watch it brew and stop any disaster before it got out of control, I went for it, and I'm glad I did! 6 quarts later and not a single drop has hit the counter top. Although we did have an issue with loose leaf tea (see later in the review).
Prior to our first use, we ran the washable parts through the dishwasher as recommended and we were ready to make our first batch of tea. The first thing I noticed was how durable the pitcher is compared to the cheapo plastic one on my previous model. I never liked the buildup residue on the old plastic one and the new version is a very nice upgrade to be able to put it in the dishwasher. I think brewing was under 7 minutes for a full 3 quarts of fresh, iced tea.
As far as the dripping problem mentioned in several posts, here are my thoughts. Perhaps you've placed the pitcher in the correct position, but the blue lid isn't on one of the 2 open spouts. If not, the tea has no where to go, but out. Maybe your tea spout from the machine is plugged and it is dripping down and running down the machine...it is not free flowing into the pitcher. If you watch it brew, the tea comes out like a faucet on low. If it drips and runs down the machine and missing the spout of the pitcher, you would definitely get a mess. Or it is dripping at a slower rate than the tea basket is filling with water.
No for the only downside that I've noticed. This says you can use loose leaf tea. Well, we purchased some loose leaf Lipton and some of it is so finely chopped, that indeed the spout got plugged and the water began to rise in the tea basket. If we weren't on top of it, it would have overflowed and spilled everywhere. With the basket about full, I was able to poke a skewer down into the tea spout and dislodge the loose leaf tea and viola! out started flowing the tea. Lesson here is, use loose leaf tea with caution, or with bigger leaves. I followed that up by inserting a coffee filter into the basket and then adding loose leaf tea and it worked perfect...not to mention it made clean up a lot easier!
All in all, this is a great machine. If your model drips every where, you need to start a batch of just water and see what's going on. Shouldn't be too difficult to figure out.
Dishwasher safe pitcher. Steeping lever to select your favorite brew strength. Makes great tasting iced tea. Brews tea bags and tea leaves. Water window. Adjustable tea steeping control. Auto shut-off. On/off indicator light removable brew basket.
