Chef's Choice 677 Cordless Electric 1-3/4-Quart Teakettle

This electric kettle does what it's supposed to do. It heats water well. Very quick. Auto shut-off within seconds of the water coming to a boil. It's also very easy to use. You pop open the lid, fill it with water, set the kettle on the base plate, and press the switch down. The switch, which is located at the bottom of the handle lights up orange when the unit is heating. The lid is not removable and opens up like Pacman instead. I wish it was removable so cleaning would be easier, but then again, it's not like I clean it much (use filtered water and the build up won't happen so much) so it's not a deal breaker at all.

I looked around for electric kettles fairly extensively before purchasing and for the price point $~50, this was the best deal out there with the LEAST plastic coming in contact with water. I first purchased a black Krups model but discovered the entire unit is plastic (with a lot of needlessly moving parts in the cap design that would surely break down the road), including the inside where the water boils. I just didn't want to deal with the thought of water boiling in plastic and me drinking any plastic traces. Granted, this kettle is NOT plastic-proof. The water guage is still plastic and comes in contact with water and so is the little mesh screen at the mouth (removable) that acts as a filter as you pour the water out. Ideally the gauge would've been glass and the screen would've been stainless...and had they been, I would've given it 5 stars. I think if you're really serious about having no contact with plastic, go with the Capresso H20 glass kettle. If I were to buy another kettle, I'd probably buy that one, esp since they are similar in price.

Regardless, this is by far the most used appliance I have, I use it many times a day, and it's been working like a champ for the last 2 years. Oh finally, this kettle looks pretty good too and fits in perfectly, esp in modern kitchens with many stainless steel appliances.

Chef's Choice 677 Cordless Electric Kettle saves time and is effortless. Advanced design, the heating element is concealed so water will never come in contact, eliminating any build up. Made of brushed stainless steel, the kettle holds 1.7liters/ 1-3/4 qts of water and boils water faster than the microwave or stovetop. There's an automatic shut off and a boil dry safety protection along with a convenient water level gauge built into the handle. The cord wraps neatly into the base for easy storage. I year warranty , 1500 watts of power.
